This time of year, most of the United States is caught under a bubble of rain, ice, sleet, and snow. But here in Hawaii, the average winter temperature is a balmy 78 degrees. It’s the perfect weather for getting outside and enjoying some sunshine. That said, when you live here year-round, it can be easy to forget how much our beautiful home has to offer.
That’s why we wanted to write this blog post: as a friendly reminder to get out and enjoy the islands. We’re spoiled rotten, so we might as well take advantage!
Go for a hike. Hawaii is considered a hiking mecca. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park alone is home to over 150 miles of trails that cover a wide variety of terrain, from lush rainforests, to misty, awe-inspiring mountains. While you’re on the trail, keep an eye out for island staples like Hawaiian honeycreeper and Nene.
Spend a day at the beach. Did you know there are over 100 beaches in the Hawaiian islands? Whether you’re looking to reserve a white sand destination for a romantic getaway or want to take the kids on a Spring Break outing, options abound. Make sure to pack snacks and a wide-spectrum SPF sunscreen.
Take a bike ride. Cycling is a wonderful form of exercise; it’s also a fascinating way to explore the islands. Regardless of skill level, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has trails fit for children, seniors, and experienced riders alike. For less-crowded riding, consider cruising your local neighborhood; many communities have implemented bike lanes in the last few years.
